John Welcomes Greater Scrutiny of Criminal Justice Bill,

John has welcomed the Scottish Government’s decision to delay Stage 2 of the Criminal Justice Bill until after a report into impact of abolishing the requirement for corroboration has been published in 2015.

John is a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee and voted against the abolition of the requirement for corroboration at Stage 1 of the bill.

Speaking on the issue John said,

“I welcome the decision to postpone Stage 2 of the Criminal Justice Bill to allow Lord Bonomy’s recommendations to form a full part of the Stage 2 scrutiny of the Bill.

“I remain opposed to the abolition of the requirement for corroboration.”
