John’s Motion on 16 & 17 Year Olds to Vote on Community Buyout

Motion S4M-08908: 16 and 17-year-olds to Vote on Carloway Buyout

That the Parliament welcomes the news that 16 and 17-year-olds will be given the right to vote on the possible community buy-out of the Carloway estate on Lewis; understands that the decision to lower the voting age was unanimously agreed at a public meeting held on 29 January 2014; believes that it is right for 16 and 17-year-olds to have a say in the future direction of their community, and hopes that 16 and 17-year-olds across all of Scotland will be able to vote in all future buyout ballots.
