John Calls for Larger Police Family

John  has called for the Chief Constable of the Police Scotland to have control over officers from the Civic Nuclear Constabulary based in Scotland.

The Civic Nuclear Constabulary has an exclusive role in protecting the civil nuclear licensed sites throughout the United Kingdom.

John as a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee, and a former police officer, has previously called for the officers covering Scotland in the British transport police to be part of Police Scotland.

Commenting John said:

“The Scottish Public do not differentiate between these different groups of police officer, the police are the police. The advent of Police Scotland which unified the eight territorial forces offered a prime opportunity to break down the barriers between the various levels of policing in Scotland and have a genuine Scottish Police Service.

“Following my call in late 2011 for the Scottish part of the Transport Police to also join the single service the Cabinet Secretary for Justice wrote to the UK Transport Secretary to begin discussions to devolve this matter. Similarly I have written to Kenny MacAskill to ask him to do likewise for the Civic Nuclear Constabulary and write to the UK Energy Secretary.”
