John has welcomed the announcement by the Scottish Government today (Wednesday 7th) of a £50 Million fund that will help heat homes across Scotland through investments in renewable energy projects.
The Scottish Government announced that a pilot scheme West Highland Housing Association in Oban and a scheme in Glasgow will be the first to be benefit from the new Warm Homes Fund.
The funds for West Highland Housing Association will be for assistance in biomass heating schemes, helping hundreds households to heat their homes more cost effectively.
Commenting on the announcement John said:
“The rising cost of fuel to heat their homes continues to be a real concern for families across the Highlands and Islands, indeed Scotland. I am delighted by the establishment of the Warm Homes Fund to help tackle this issue. I am confident that the fund will help to make a difference in the years ahead.
“I join the Scottish Government in urging the UK Government to take seriously its responsibility in holding the energy companies to account and insist on more work to keep excessive rises in cost at bay. These excessive rises have contributed to rising fuel poverty and hopefully the Warm Homes Fund will contribute to a reversal of this situation.”
